India will complete 75 years of Independence this year. Here is a series acknowledging 75 great sporting achievements by Indian athletes.  Sportstar will present one iconic sporting achievement each day, leading up to August 15, 2022. His achievement broke a 35-year medal hiatus for the country. India’s previous Asiad best was in the inaugural edition of the Games in New Delhi when the country managed six medals. It was a self-imposed lockdown by Singh that propelled him to a podium finish in Seoul. “It was a lockdown indeed. This is for a national cause to fight COVID-19. Ravi Kumar headed for Russia camp ahead of Worlds

Olympics silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya will train in Russian wrestling hub Vladikavkaz ahead of the World championships scheduled to be held in Belgrade, Serbia, next month. The 24-year-old will be accompanied by his coach Arun Kumar, sparring partner Sahil and physiotherapist Dr. Munish Kumar during the 29-day camp, entirely funded by the Union Sports Ministry under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), said a statement on Wednesday. Khajan Singh Tokas, born on 6 May 1962, is an Indian swimmer, who remained national swimming champion of India, and won a silver medal at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. He was awarded an Arjuna Award by Government of India in 1984. Currently he serves as the Deputy Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in India. Ukrainian minister says Russia blocking access to medicines

KYIV: Ukraine’s health minister has accused Russian authorities of committing a crime against humanity by blocking access to affordable medicines in areas its forces have occupied since invading the country 5 1/2 months ago. In an interview with The Associated Press, Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Liashko said Russian authorities repeatedly have blocked efforts to provide state-subsidized drugs to people in occupied cities, towns and villages. “Throughout the entire six months of war, Russia has not (allowed) proper humanitarian corridors so we could provide our own medicines to the patients that need them,” Liashko said, speaking at the Health Ministry in Kyiv late Friday. “We believe that these actions are being taken with intent by Russia, and we consider them to be crimes against humanity and war crimes that will be documented and will be recognized,” the minister said. Arab states express solidarity with Saudi Arabia over suicide bomb blast

DUBAI: Arab nations have expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia on Saturday in the wake of the death of a suicide bomber in Jeddah. Abdullah Al-Shehri detonated a suicide vest when authorities attempted to arrest him in Jeddah, injuring a Pakistani resident and three security men. In a statement, the UAE condemned the blast, reiterating its stance against “all threats to the Kingdom’s security and stability.” The country’s ministry of foreign affairs commended the efficiency of the Saudi security forces during the operation and measures taken to maintain public safety, conveying wishes for a speedy recovery of those injured in the blast. Why China shields Pak based terrorists from global terrorist tag?

Chinese indifference to Indian national security concerns were reiterated at the UN Security Council this month when it put a hold on listing Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)’s de facto leader Abdul Rauf Asghar Alvi, younger brother of global terrorist  Masood Azhar Alvi , on the 1267 Taliban and Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee list. In June this year, China again put a hold on technical grounds on list of Abdul Rahman Makki, head of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT)’s political affairs department and chief fund raiser of Muridke based terror factory. Makki is brother-in-law of LeT’s chief and global terrorist  Hafiz Saeed  and the head of so-called foreign affairs department of the transnational terrorist group.
